Explosions heard Sunday near Erbil International Airport in Iraq’s Kurdistan region were linked to military exercises and security activities, local authorities said.
Axar.az reports, citing Arab News, that one explosion was heard near the airport, where US-led coalition forces remain stationed.
Kurdish counterterrorism authorities said the blasts resulted from “military training and security activities” and posed no threat to residents.
Local media reported that the US-led coalition had detonated ordnance in the area. No casualties or damage were reported.
The incident comes as the US-led coalition completes its withdrawal from Iraq. Under a 2024 agreement between Baghdad and Washington, the coalition mission and remaining deployment in the Kurdistan region are scheduled to end by September 30.
