Sweden signs major artillery ammunition deals with Germany, Norway

Sweden’s Defence Ministry announced on July 8 the signing of agreements worth over 5 billion Swedish crowns ($526 million) with Germany’s Rheinmetall and Norway’s Nammo for the delivery of artillery ammunition, marking a significant investment in the country’s military readiness.

“With this order, we are strengthening Sweden's defence capability. It is an important investment in security for Sweden and NATO,” said Minister of Defence Pål Jonson in an official statement, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

The bulk of the order, valued at more than 4 billion crowns, was awarded to Rheinmetall Denel Munition, a subsidiary of the German defence firm Rheinmetall. The contract includes the provision of artillery shells and propellant charges intended for Sweden’s Archer artillery system.

An additional 1 billion crowns was allocated to Norwegian defence manufacturer Nammo for the supply of 155 mm high explosive extended range (HE-ER) grenades.

The purchases are part of Sweden’s broader efforts to enhance its national defence and fulfill its obligations as a new member of NATO.
