Turkish F-16s get smarter with indigenous radar signal detection system

The Turkish Air Force is set to enhance its electronic warfare capabilities with the integration of a domestically developed radar detection system into its fleet of F-16 fighter jets.

The Electronic Support Pod (EDPOD), developed by Turkish defence and technology institute TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, has successfully completed flight tests involving real radar systems and has officially entered service, Turkish Defence Industry shared on its X account, Caliber.Az reports.

The EDPOD is a tactical electronic support module designed to significantly boost the situational awareness and survivability of F-16 aircraft. It can detect and analyze radar signals emitted by enemy systems used for target acquisition, tracking, missile guidance, and target illumination. The system identifies potential threats, logs their characteristics, and provides precise geolocation data.

This advanced electronic warfare capability marks a significant milestone in Türkiye’s efforts to strengthen its indigenous defence technologies and reduce reliance on foreign systems. The deployment of EDPOD is expected to provide a critical edge in modern aerial combat environments.
