31 years have passed since the Bashlibel tragedy

Today is the next anniversary of the Bashlibel massacre.

Axar.az informs that 31 years have passed since the massacre committed by Armenians in Bashlibel village of Kalbajar region on April 18, 1993.

In the first days of April 1993, during the occupation of the Kalbajar region, 73 residents of Bashlibel village, which has a population of about two thousand, could not leave their homes. When they tried to get out of the siege on April 2, the Armenians killed 9 people and took 5 hostages. The remaining 62 people retreated to the mountains and hid in the fields.

On April 18, the Armenians, who discovered the location of the residents, attacked the camp killed 18 more people, and took 14 hostages. 1 person went missing during the incident. 30 people who managed to survive were surrounded for 113 days. Finally, on July 17, they managed to get out of the encirclement by mountain roads, moving only at night. During these events, only 93-year-old Bashlibel resident Alasgar Kazimov did not leave the Dogma village and continued his life under siege.

Kalbajar region was liberated from occupation on November 25, 2020, as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War.
