Macron urges Iran to reopen Strait of Hormuz

French President Emmanuel Macron stated he spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, urging Tehran to halt attacks on regional countries and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on X, Macron emphasised that a diplomatic solution is essential to end the conflict, Caliber.Az reports.

He highlighted the safety and return of French citizens Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, currently at the French embassy, as an absolute priority.

“I stressed the need for Iran to immediately cease attacks on regional countries. Iran must also guarantee freedom of navigation, ending the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Finally, I again expressed our deep concern regarding the development of Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, as well as all its destabilising activities in the region, which lie at the heart of the current crisis. To address these critical issues, halt escalation, and preserve peace, a diplomatic solution is now more necessary than ever,” Macron wrote.
