The Netherlands and several major allies have agreed to help safeguard navigation in the Strait of Hormuz following a ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
Axar.az reports, citing Netherlands Times, the agreement involves a group of countries including the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Canada, Denmark, and Spain, along with European Union leadership. The initiative aims to ensure the safe resumption of maritime traffic through the стратегic waterway.
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and other leaders welcomed the two-week ceasefire, noting that such a truce had been a precondition for supporting efforts to restore navigation in the strait.
“Our governments will work to safeguard free passage through the Strait of Hormuz,” the joint statement said, adding that the ceasefire and ongoing negotiations could help prevent a serious global energy crisis.
The Royal Association of Dutch Shipowners (KVNR) also expressed relief over the ceasefire, while cautioning that the situation remains fragile and that a full resumption of shipping will depend on further developments.
