Authorities in Türkiye have detained the mayor of Güzelbahçe, Mustafa Günay, along with four others, as part of an investigation led by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in Izmir.
According to TRT Haber, the operation was carried out at the Güzelbahçe Municipality, where the gendarmerie detained a total of five individuals. Those taken into custody include Mayor Mustafa Günay, his wife Nermin Günay, former mayor Özdem Mustafa İnce, the municipality’s head of urban planning and construction, identified as O.B., and municipal council member S.K.
The prosecutor’s office stated that detention warrants had been issued for seven suspects in total within the scope of the investigation.
Two additional suspects — municipal council member G.G. and her husband, construction company executive Ş.G. — are currently abroad. Authorities have issued arrest warrants for both individuals.
As part of the operation, gendarmerie units also conducted searches at the municipal building earlier in the morning.
