A river cruise ship carrying 127 German tourists was involved in a collision with a barge on the Rhône River in southeastern France.
The incident occurred near the commune of Sablons and involved the Bijou du Rhône, a cruise vessel operating in the region, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The impact was strong, causing damage to the ship’s hull and significant damage to the barge. Fortunately, the collision struck the ship above the waterline, eliminating immediate concerns of flooding or sinking.
French authorities have announced plans to evacuate all passengers and crew. They are expected to be transported by bus to their intended destination on May 11. No injuries have been reported as of the latest updates.
