“Under the wise and resolute leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan is successfully pursuing an independent foreign policy firmly grounded in national interests. This policy, reflecting the will of the Azerbaijani people, promotes good neighborly relations and regional cooperation based on international law and the principles of mutual respect. Azerbaijan does not operate under the dictate of any foreign power, nor is it possible to engage with our country using the language of ultimatums. The strategic decisions of the Azerbaijani state are determined solely by its internal political will,” said Mirjalil Gasimli, a member of the Milli Majlis, in a statement to AZERTAC.
“The foreign policy course set by our head of state enables Azerbaijan to act as an independent player on the international stage, participate actively in regional and global initiatives, and build partnerships founded on peace, security, and cooperation. Azerbaijanis living across the globe rightfully take pride in our strong and independent state,” Gasimli emphasized.
The MP noted that Azerbaijan consistently prioritizes the protection of the rights of its compatriots worldwide, underscoring that the country's firm position regarding the recent incidents involving Azerbaijanis in Russia is a clear reflection of this commitment.
Gasimli added, “The events in Yekaterinburg, including the killing of our compatriots and the pressures they have faced, are blatant examples of chauvinism, discrimination, and national prejudice in Russia. Naturally, such treatment and the use of torture against our compatriots have caused deep indignation within Azerbaijani society. Moreover, Russia’s failure to take action regarding the downing of an Azerbaijan Airlines civilian plane in December last year remains utterly unacceptable. It is imperative that steps consistent with international law be taken to address these issues. We are confident that Azerbaijan will achieve a just resolution on the international stage and that those responsible will be held accountable in accordance with legal norms.”
