President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, personally inspected the ongoing construction work at Victory Park in Khankendi today, July 3, marking a major step in the city’s post-conflict redevelopment.
Elchin Yusubov, Special Representative of the President in Khankendi, Aghdara, and Khojaly districts, briefed President Aliyev on the rapid progress of the project, which began earlier this year with the foundation laid by the President in February, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Victory Park spans an impressive 8.3 hectares and is being built on the site where several structures, constructed during the occupation period and deemed unsafe and non-compliant with construction standards, have been demolished.
At the heart of the park, work is underway on the Victory Arch, a monumental symbol of Azerbaijan’s triumph in the Patriotic War. The arch will reach a height of 44 meters, representing the 44 days of the conflict. A viewing platform atop the arch will provide visitors with panoramic views of Khankendi. To commemorate each day of the war, 44 symbolic steps will lead visitors from the central plaza to the arch, each step dedicated to a liberated settlement. Accessibility is a priority, with elevators planned to accommodate elderly visitors, children, and those with physical disabilities.
In addition to these features, the park will boast extensive green spaces. While preserving existing trees, over 300 new trees and more than 9,000 decorative shrubs have already been planted, transforming the area into a verdant public space celebrating victory and renewal.
