Azerbaijani boxer shows successful performance at Paris Olympics

Three Azerbaijani athletes joined the fight at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris on July 28.

Alfonso Dominguez, representing Azerbaijan in a boxing competition, defeated two-time Olympic champion from Cuba Julio Cesar La Cruz in the 1/8 finals of the 92kg weight category, reports, local media.

The 29-year-old Azerbaijani boxer will meet Kazakh Aibek Oralbay in the 1/4 finals.

Judoists' performances were unsuccessful. Yashar Najafov (66 kg) and Gultaj Mammadaliyeva (52 kg) lost to their opponents in the first fight and said goodbye to the tournament.

On July 29, Azerbaijani athletes will join the fight in six more sports at the Olympics.

The ceremony is attended by 10,500 athletes from 206 countries. About 300,000 spectators were watching the opening ceremony. In addition, the event was broadcast on huge screens for residents and guests of the city.

The 2024 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad and officially branded as Paris 2024, is an ongoing international multi-sport event taking place from 24 July to 11 August 2024 in France, with the Opening Ceremony taking place on 26 July.
