Summer Paralympic games begin in Paris

The opening ceremony of the Summer Paralympic Games took place in Paris, the capital of France.

Axar.az reports that the event, which started at 10:00 PM Baku time, began on the Champs-Élysées.

For the first time, the ceremony was held outside a stadium and concluded at Concorde Square in Paris. At the opening, the Azerbaijani flag was carried by para-taekwondo athlete Imamaddin Khalilov and para-athlete Lamiya Valiyeva.

Azerbaijan will be represented at the tournament by 19 athletes in 7 sports. These include para-taekwondo athletes Royal Fataliyeva (52 kg), Sabir Zeynalov (58 kg), Imamaddin Khalilov (70 kg), Abulfaz Abuzarli (80 kg), para-swimmers Konul Suleymanova, Raman Saleh, Vali Israfilov, para-judo athletes Dursadaf Karimova (+70 kg), Khatira Ismiyeva (+70 kg), Ilham Zakiyev (+90 kg), para-athletes Rufat Rafiyev, Olohan Musayev (both shot put), Said Najafzadeh, Orkhan Aslanov (both long jump), Lamiya Valiyeva (100 and 400 meters run), para-shooters Kamran Zeynalov, Aybeniz Babayeva, para-archer Jahan Musayev, and para-powerlifter Jeyhun Mahmudov (54 kg).

It should be noted that the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games will conclude on September 8.
