The United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO) has stated that 29 attacks on vessels in the Persian Gulf and around the Strait of Hormuz have been verified since the beginning of the conflict.
Axar.az reports, citing IMO, at least 10 seafarers have been killed and vessels have been damaged as a result of the incidents.
Around 20,000 seafarers on approximately 1,600 vessels remain trapped in the region.
IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez warned that the situation is not improving and stressed that there is no safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz. He called for the release of seafarers, noting that they are not at fault.
He also said that IMO is working with Member States and partners on a maritime evacuation plan, which will be implemented once safety conditions allow.
