The Zangazur Corridor will serve as a strategic bridge connecting the Turkic world, said Aygun Aliyeva, Executive Director of the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) of Azerbaijan.
Speaking at a panel session dedicated to Turkic Solidarity Day and organised by the Directorate of Communications of Turkish Presidency, Aliyeva underscored the geopolitical and cultural importance of the corridor, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Today, the Turkic world is not just an idea, but a reality and a historical mission. It is our common heritage, which we are obliged to preserve and protect. Azerbaijan's victory in the Second Karabakh War is the victory of the entire Turkic world. We firmly believe that soon the Zangazur corridor will become a reality and will serve as a bridge uniting Turkic countries,” Aliyeva stated.
She also addressed past attempts to fragment Turkic states, noting that historical injustices had ultimately failed to undermine the shared identity and solidarity among Turkic nations.
In addition to geopolitical issues, Aliyeva highlighted ongoing initiatives to foster civil society cooperation across Turkic countries. She announced plans to hold a forum for non-governmental organisations from Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan later this year, as well as a broader meeting of civil societies from Turkic states within the framework of the Turkic World Non-Governmental Organisations Union.
The Zangazur Corridor, which would connect mainland Azerbaijan with its exclave Nakhchivan through southern Armenia, is widely regarded in Baku and Ankara as a critical project for enhancing regional connectivity, trade, and Turkic unity.
