In a strongly worded statement, the British government has urged the Syrian regime to take swift and decisive action to protect the country’s Druze community, while simultaneously calling on Israel to cease attacks that could further inflame the already fragile situation in Syria.
Published on the UK government’s official website, the statement condemns recent assaults targeting Druze civilians and calls on Damascus to restore calm, safeguard non-combatants, and ensure that those responsible for the violence are held accountable, Caliber.Az reports.
“The UK is appalled by recent attacks against the Druze community in Syria,” the statement read, underscoring London’s expectation that Syrian authorities act urgently to restore order and protect their citizens.
London also emphasised the broader need for restraint, urging all sides to reject violence and avoid any measures that could deepen social tensions within Syria. The UK particularly warned against actions that could endanger the country’s already strained social fabric.
In a notable part of the statement, the British government appealed directly to Israel, calling on it to refrain from any steps that could destabilise Syria. It reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging all actors to respect these fundamental norms.
“Respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is paramount,” the UK emphasised, pointing to the broader implications of regional instability.
The statement concluded with a powerful reminder that a sustainable peace and a better future for the Syrian people depend on the protection and inclusion of all communities. “There can be no lasting peace or better future for Syrians unless all of Syria’s communities are protected and fully included in Syria’s transition,” the UK asserted.
