Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss the latest developments in the indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States.
The conversation, which focused on the ongoing cooperation between the IAEA and Iran regarding Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program, also addressed the progress of the indirect talks between Iran and the US, Caliber.Az reports citing Iranian media.
These discussions, which are being mediated by Oman, aim to resolve long-standing concerns over Iran’s nuclear activities and to facilitate the potential removal of sanctions on Tehran.
The two sides have held three rounds of negotiations in Muscat and Rome, on April 12, 19, and 26, with the primary goal of reaching a comprehensive agreement that would address both the nuclear issue and the lifting of economic sanctions that have severely impacted Iran’s economy.
While the details of the ongoing negotiations remain largely confidential, both Iran and the US have expressed willingness to engage in dialogue to find a solution that balances Iran’s nuclear ambitions with international non-proliferation concerns. The involvement of the IAEA has been crucial in ensuring that Iran’s nuclear activities remain within the bounds of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
