Armenia spreads disinformation about India's alleged ban on Azerbaijani goods

A disinformation campaign has recently emerged, spreading misleading claims about India's purported ban on the import of goods from Azerbaijan.

The narrative, propagated by Armenian media and various social media pages, has caused confusion, despite the lack of official confirmation, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Pakistani Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Qasim Mohiuddin, addressed the issue during a press conference, describing the move as a "very wrong decision."

“The misinformation was initially circulated by Armenian media, which reported that India has imposed a ban on the import of goods from Azerbaijan,” the ambassador said.

This claim was also disseminated through numerous Azerbaijani-language social media pages, amplifying the false narrative.

Ambassador Mohiuddin, addressed the allegations, stating that he had not seen any such decision from India. He clarified the situation, saying, "I have not seen India's decision to ban the import of goods from Azerbaijan. This would be a very wrong step."

Following the claims, Faktyoxla Lab. conducted an investigation to verify the accuracy of the reports. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India issued a notification on May 2, 2025, which referred to a ban on goods originating from Pakistan, specifically those that are imported or transited through Pakistan. Notably, Azerbaijan was not mentioned in this document in any capacity. In addition to the fabricated claims, social media campaigns have emerged calling on Indian citizens to cancel their planned tourist trips to Azerbaijan and Türkiye and to boycott these countries. During an investigation into these campaigns, it was discovered that many of the accounts promoting the boycott were of Armenian origin.

Further examination revealed that Armenian individuals were also actively promoting an anti-national Azerbaijani-language page called “Hamam Times,” which has played a key role in spreading these false narratives.

Conclusion:

-The claims regarding India’s alleged ban on the import of goods from Azerbaijan, spread by various Armenian websites and supporting Azerbaijani-language pages, are completely false and unsubstantiated.

-Armenia appears to be continuing its collaboration with India in the information space, creating and promoting misleading narratives to influence public opinion.
