Russian forces launch massive Shahed drone attack on Ukraine's Kharkiv fire reported

On the night of May 6, the Russian armed forces launched a massive Shahed drone attack on Ukraine’s Kharkiv city, Mayor of the city Ihor Terekhov has said.

Several explosions were heard due to the attack, and impacts were recorded, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.

At 03:36 a.m., he announced that the centre of the city had been struck by a Shahed drone. A private house caught fire as a result of the attack.

"The enemy carried out a strike with a Shahed-type UAV on a densely populated central district of the city. As a result of the drone attack, a private house is ablaze. Information on possible casualties is being clarified," Terekhov wrote.

Notably, on May 2, 2025, Russian forces conducted a massive drone attack on Kharkiv, injuring 47 people and causing widespread damage across four districts. Reports suggest that thermobaric warheads were used in that assault.

The continued use of Shahed drones in these attacks has raised concerns about their enhanced destructive capabilities. In February 2025, Kharkiv officials reported that Russia had increased the warhead size of Shahed drones to 90 kg, leading to more powerful explosions and greater destruction.
